The year is 1962, rural England. Dr. Eric Parry, a man who knows how to keep his secrets, goes out on calls while his pregnant wife still sleeps in their warm, cozy cottage. On a nearby farm, in a house that can't be properly heated, another pregnant woman—Rita Simmons—sleeps, but even in sleep, she is haunted by memories of her past life. Her husband has been up since early morning, busy in the cowshed. The relationships in both couples are quite steady—affection is definitely present, and perhaps love as well. But December brings snowstorms, and an unusually harsh winter sets in. Our heroes face challenges not only from the weather.
