Uncle Remus's Tales

When American writer Joel Chandler Harris was a young boy, he often listened to the cheerful and funny tales of North American plantation workers, whose ancestors lived in Africa. They brought with them stories from Africa about Brother Rabbit, Brother Fox, Brother Bear, and other animals. Most of the tales were told to the future writer by an old black man, Uncle Remus. Joel Harris remembered his funny tales throughout his life. He named his book of childhood stories "Uncle Remus's Tales."

The tales are published in the classic translation by Mikhail Gershenzon. Illustrations by Margarita Volkova.
