The ancient Roman emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius is one of the most prominent representatives of the Stoic school. Stoicism teaches self-control, mental strength, and distancing from emotions, giving a person the opportunity to become a free, composed, and unbiased thinker. Stoicism focuses on the individual's mental well-being. Stoics believe that by learning to control one's passions and emotions, one can overcome the chaos of the surrounding world and find peace within oneself. For stoics, philosophy is an active meditation process, meaning constant practice and self-reminders of the main principles of stoicism. Translated from Ancient Greek by Ināra Ķemere.
